NUS, NTU aptitude-based admissions

The 2 Singapore universities are increasingly looking beyond grades to assess a potential student’s suitability.

Traditionally, the university admissions is based on polytechnics or junior colleges (JCs) results.

The alternative provided by both the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is through aptitude-based admissions, where achievements and talents outside of academics are considered.

For example, applicants with strong aptitude for computing, despite facing exceptional circumstances or challenges, may still be admitted to the most sought after computing course.

And the number of applicants admitted based on aptitude is significant.

NTU said that in 2023, more than half - 57 per cent - of its freshmen were offered places based on aptitude-based admissions.
